Local doctor and two grandchildren are among 5 killed in South Carolina mass shooting, authorities say

The victims of the Wednesday night capturing close to Rock Hill included a physician, his spouse and their two grandchildren, the York County Sheriff’s Office stated in a tweet. The household was “very prominent and very well known” within the county, York County Sheriff spokesman Trent Faris stated.

Police had been known as to the scene following studies of a capturing at 4:45 p.m.

“Dr. Robert Lesslie & his wife, Barbara Lesslie were both found in the home & died as a result of gunshot wounds, as well as their 2 grandchildren. James Lewis of Gastonia, was working at the home & died from gunshot wounds,” the sheriff’s workplace stated.

During the information convention following the capturing, Faris stated he has lived within the space all his life and that “Dr. Lesslie was my doctor growing up.”

“Dr. Lesslie has been one of those people that everybody knows. He started Riverview Medical Center in Rock Hill and it has been a staple in Rock Hill for years,” Faris stated.

In addition to the 5 individuals who had been killed, one other individual was transported to the hospital with “serious gunshot wounds,” stated Faris, who described the incident as a mass capturing.

“This is a very tragic, tragic situation and the family does ask that you respect their privacy during this time,” Faris stated.

Lesslie was the founding father of Riverview House Calls & Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care, in keeping with its website, and had been working towards in Rock Hill since 1981. In a private bio page, Lesslie says he and his spouse had been married for 40 years, raised 4 kids and had 9 grandchildren.
“In my spare time, I enjoy ​writing, golf, hunting, growing fruit and hops, and bagpiping,” the bio web page says.

As for the suspect, Faris stated: “We have found the person we believe is responsible and we are with them at this time.”

“That’s all I can say about that suspect,” the spokesman added.

When requested if the suspect was a neighbor, Faris stated: “He lives on the same road.”

A tweet from the sheriff’s workplace says authorities discovered the suspect “in a nearby house.”

“There is no active threat to the community,” the sheriff’s workplace stated. “Detectives are still in the area serving a search warrant & investigating this tragic event.”
