Local doctor and two grandchildren are among 5 killed in South Carolina mass shooting, authorities say

The victims of the Wednesday night taking pictures close to Rock Hill included a health care provider, his spouse and their two grandchildren, the York County Sheriff’s Office mentioned in a tweet. The household was “very prominent and very well known” within the county, York County Sheriff spokesman Trent Faris mentioned.

Police have been known as to the scene following reviews of a taking pictures at 4:45 p.m.

“Dr. Robert Lesslie & his wife, Barbara Lesslie were both found in the home & died as a result of gunshot wounds, as well as their 2 grandchildren. James Lewis of Gastonia, was working at the home & died from gunshot wounds,” the sheriff’s workplace mentioned.

During the information convention following the taking pictures, Faris mentioned he has lived within the space all his life and that “Dr. Lesslie was my doctor growing up.”

“Dr. Lesslie has been one of those people that everybody knows. He started Riverview Medical Center in Rock Hill and it has been a staple in Rock Hill for years,” Faris mentioned.

In addition to the 5 individuals who have been killed, one other individual was transported to the hospital with “serious gunshot wounds,” mentioned Faris, who described the incident as a mass taking pictures.

“This is a very tragic, tragic situation and the family does ask that you respect their privacy during this time,” Faris mentioned.

Lesslie was the founding father of Riverview House Calls & Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care, based on its website, and had been training in Rock Hill since 1981. In a private bio page, Lesslie says he and his spouse had been married for 40 years, raised 4 youngsters and had 9 grandchildren.
“In my spare time, I enjoy ​writing, golf, hunting, growing fruit and hops, and bagpiping,” the bio web page says.

As for the suspect, Faris mentioned: “We have found the person we believe is responsible and we are with them at this time.”

“That’s all I can say about that suspect,” the spokesman added.

When requested if the suspect was a neighbor, Faris mentioned: “He lives on the same road.”

A tweet from the sheriff’s workplace says authorities discovered the suspect “in a nearby house.”

“There is no active threat to the community,” the sheriff’s workplace mentioned. “Detectives are still in the area serving a search warrant & investigating this tragic event.”
