The officers, some in plainclothes, responded to a theft contained in the Glendale Galleria mall round 7:10 p.m. Saturday, in response to a Glendale Police Department assertion. Officers made contact with the suspect contained in the Dick’s Sporting Goods retailer, stated police.
“While attempting to detain the suspect, a struggle ensued and force was used by the officers,” in response to the discharge.
The shopper who recorded the incident, who didn’t wish to be recognized by the station, was outraged by the officer who kicked the suspect within the head, telling KCAL/KCBS the officer “wasn’t even there to begin with.”
“It was really hard to watch, we got traumatized,” stated Melissa Navarette, recognized by KCAL/KCBS because the suspect’s sister. She didn’t wish to be proven on-camera, in response to the station. “We still have all of the video, like, stuck in our head,” she stated.
Stolen merchandise was recovered from the suspect, in response to Glendale police, and he was arrested for petty theft and resisting an officer by power. Police say the merchandise was from one other retailer within the mall.
Police are investigating the officers’ conduct and asking witnesses to contact the division with any data on the incident.
